Essential oils have become very popular in recent years for good reason. They can be used internally, topically, in your environment through sprays or diffusers and in different homemade concoctions. I personally use them daily whether in my skin care, on my children for illness, or even just for a simple pick me up in my diffuser. They are so versatile and the uses and benefits are literally endless. Today I want to share a few of my favorites and why I use them in my line.
A very popular essential oil, Peppermint has been used for thousands of years. It has an invigorating effect and many healing benefits such as headache reliever and digestion relief. I use this on my kids when they have a fever, either on their feet or their spine. It works wonders!
Simply Jess Product- KISS mint
I use this in my KISS lip balm because of its cooling and stimulating effects making it great for the lips!
2. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree has antiseptic, anti-fungal and antibacterial benefits. It is popular for hair/scalp and skin conditions, especially acne and fungus on feet. I even use this oil to help protect me from bug bites when I am outdoors. This is a great oil to diffuse in the air or put in a spray bottle to keep the germs at bay.
Simply Jess Product - BALANCE deodorant
Because of the antibacterial benefits, tea tree oil is amazing for deodorant because it is the bacteria the causes the smell we experience, not the sweat. Combined with the other bacteria fighters in BALANCE, it works amazingly well to fight body odor.
Another oil that has been used for thousands of years and is considered sacred, Frankincense is considered to be precious. It is known to be highly anti-inflammatory, terrific for immunity and also calming (great for sleep promotion, anxiety and stress).
Simply Jess Product- UNDO serum
Frankincense is one of the best essential oils for anti aging and the skin. It has the ability to strengthen and tone the skin while also soothing and calming redness-which is exactly what UNDO was designed to do!
If I had to pick the most widely known and used oil I would choose Lavender. Its uses and benefits are a mile long and it is gentle enough to be used on just about every skin type or concern. Its uplifting and calming nature are well documented and it is the most popular for young kids and babies because of how safe it is to use. This is the oil you grab when you get a burn or irritation because of its healing and anti-inflammatory effects. It also has antimicrobial benefits among many, many others.
Simply Jess Product- KISS sensitive
Because Peppermint oil can be overly stimulating for some people I wanted to have an option for a sensitive lip balm and one my kids could use. Lavender was the perfect solution for a calming and healing touch to the KISS lip balm and is a favorite within the Simply Jess line.
5. Orange Oil Extract
Orange essential oil is amazing for skin health, known for fighting acne due to its protection from inflammation and promoting the health of the skin overall. It is highly uplifting and helps with increasing energy. It has a cleansing and toning effect on the skin and is a powerful antioxidant. It is personally one of my favorite scents!
Simply Jess Product-????
You will have to wait until May to find out, but you will not want to miss this one! Stay tuned!
This is by far the most commonly asked question I get! It can be confusing to figure out what order to put on your skin care, when do you use it and what should you do in the night time versus day time. I will break this down so it is easy to understand!
For a general rule of thumb, products are applied in the order of what is the lightest weight to the heaviest. This will be a universal application process that can be used within any product line but if you have specific questions reach out and let me know!

A few thoughts about the routine info above. The weekly routine will vary depending on which product you are currently using but most exfoliators and masks are recommended 1-3 times per week. If you are using a Vitamin C product as a treatment serum, I suggest using that in the daily A.M. routine. Products that help promote cellular turnover or that are exfoliating should be used at night so you can avoid the sun. If you have a break out and need to spot treat you would do that step after you use toner as well.
If you are using Simply Jess products, I will answer a few questions I get with my products. UNDO serum should go under any moisturizer or sun protection. You can use the REPAIR toner after you cleanse but also after make-up or throughout the day. And for best results they are both used twice a day, morning and night.
I think that covers the basics but if there is something I left out let me know your questions!
A common goal of every client I see is to achieve clear skin. And the question I get asked a lot is what to do when the skin is clogged, congested and has black heads. Below you will find my top 3 tips for getting your skin clear and keeping it that way!
I know I have said this before but it is one of the most important steps for getting the skin clearer. We need to slough off the dead skin cells and help promote turnover. When dead cells pile up this can lead to clogged pores which is why exfoliation is great for both preventing and treating congestion. This is especially important while as we age and the cellular turnover slows. I recommend 1-3 times per week and keep it consistent.
Being dehydrated makes it difficult to remove blackheads, so make sure you keep the skin hydrated. Drink that water! And using ingredients like Hylauronic acid will help prevent water loss in the skin make a huge difference. The old way of thinking about this was to dry out the skin so that the skin would be rid of the oil which is the cause of the congestion. Now we know the skin will overproduce oil when it is stripped causing more problems. UNDO serum is great for people who need hydration and protection without the oil clogging ingredients. It also is jam packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients so it will help soothe and calm breakouts.
3. Get a facial!
This is something I highly recommend for people who are really congested. When you get in with an esthetician they will have the tools needed to remove your blackheads in a sanitary way with the proper equipment. Of course I am a big fan of facials after all this is what I did for years in the treatment room. It is also relaxing and a nice way to get self care in.
What are some of the tricks you use when you get congested?
As an esthetician and skin care educator who has worked in almost every facet of this amazing industry, my journey began not only with a quest to heal and correct skin but to connect with people. I have spent my 15 year career as an esthetician in the treatment room in every type of spa, as well as a trainer for multiple luxury brands, where I have had the privilege of traveling all over the world.
